—About Sean—

Sean Charles is a performer, composer, and educator of the percussive arts.

While classically trained, Sean’s performance roots are in the marching arts — a path that took him to top Drum Corps International ensembles like the Madison Scouts and the Boston Crusaders. From age 17, he’s been coaching Connecticut’s marching arts community, shaping ensembles and individual players with a focus on front ensemble and battery percussion. His work blends rigorous technique with creative energy, producing musicians who perform with precision and passion.

A committed chamber musician, Sean co-founded the chamber group Shards Duo, along with clarinetist Wesley Rhodes. Together, they strive to push the boundaries of the clarinet and percussion repertoire through engaging performances and compelling compositional language. They are enthusiastic about collaborating with composers and about educating young musicians.

Sean completed his Bachelor's degree at Western Connecticut State University. He currently holds a Master of Music degree from the University of Kansas, where he studied with renowned percussionist Sam Um.

Sean currently freelances in the Northeast and performs with several ensembles, including the Greater Bridgeport Symphony Orchestra, the Ridgefield Symphony Orchestra, the New Haven Oratorio Choir, and the New Haven Concert Choral, among others.

Sean is proud to be an endorsed Innovative Percussion Artist.
